About Unihockey

Floorball, a type of floor hockey, is an indoor team sport which was developed in the 1970s. Floorball is most popular in areas where the sport has developed the longest, such as the Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Singapore and Switzerland.[citation needed] The game is played indoors on a gym floor, making it a year-round sport at the amateur and professional levels. There are professional leagues, such as Finland’s Salibandyliiga and Sweden’s Svenska Superligan.

While there are 49 members of the International Floorball Federation (IFF), Sweden, Finland, Switzerland and the Czech Republic have finished in most of the coveted 1st, 2nd and 3rd places at the Floorball World Championships.

In addition to those four countries, floorball is gaining popularity in countries such as Norway, Denmark, Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, Singapore and the United States.

Although unihockey is not a big sport in Spain, it is played in schools in Fuengirola, Madrid and other cities, which will probably help it spread. There is also a national league, which consists of eight teams in 2010/2011. A female league also exists although it only attracted three teams 2010/2011.

CUF Fuengirola has been playing in the Spanish National Unihockey League for many years. Last season (2010/2011) the team finished fift, and (2009/2010) the team finished third.
